Google RankBrain
Overview[edit | edit source]
Google RankBrain is a machine learning (AI) algorithm that Google uses to sort the search results. It also helps Google process and understand search queries. RankBrain is part of Google's Hummingbird search algorithm and it helps Google to understand the context and intent behind search queries, and to provide more relevant search results.
History[edit | edit source]
RankBrain was announced by Google on October 26, 2015. It had been in use since the early part of the year. At the time of the announcement, Google stated that RankBrain was the third most important factor in the ranking algorithm along with links and content.
Function[edit | edit source]
RankBrain uses artificial intelligence to embed vast amounts of written language into mathematical entities, called vectors, that the computer can understand. If RankBrain sees a word or phrase it isn’t familiar with, the machine can make a guess as to what words or phrases might have a similar meaning and filter the result accordingly, making it effective at handling never-before-seen search queries.
Usage Types[edit | edit source]
