Overview[edit | edit source]

Branding is a way of defining your business to yourself, your team, and your external audiences. It could be called the business' "identity", but only on the understanding that it embodies the core of what the business is and its values, not just what it looks and sounds like. Brands are there to identify, not to explain or directly sell. In fact, it is possible to create a brand that isn't even attached to a physical product or concrete service.

Importance of Branding[edit | edit source]

Branding is important because it:

  • Creates Trust: A professional appearance builds credibility and trust.
  • Supports Advertising: Advertising is another aspect of your brand.
  • Builds Financial Value: Strong brands usually guarantee future business.
  • Generates New Customers: Strong brand can generate referrals or viral traffic.

Usage Types[edit | edit source]

Branding can be divided into several types based on its purpose and the context in which it is used. These are as follows:

Corporate Branding[edit | edit source]

Corporate branding is about promoting the brand name of a corporate entity, as opposed to specific products or services. The activities and thinking that go into corporate branding are different from product and service branding because the scope of a corporate brand is typically much broader.

Personal Branding[edit | edit source]

Personal branding is the conscious and intentional effort to create and influence public perception of an individual by positioning them as an authority in their industry, elevating their credibility, and differentiating themselves from the competition, to ultimately advance their career, increase their circle of influence, and have a larger impact.

Product Branding[edit | edit source]

Product branding is the unique design, sign, symbol, words, or a combination of these, employed in creating an image that identifies a product and differentiates it from its competitors.

Geographical Branding[edit | edit source]

Geographical branding is the practice of using the name of a place to brand a product. This can be done to give the product a certain image, or to signify that it comes from a place that is associated with high quality.

Cultural Branding[edit | edit source]

Cultural branding refers to the use of symbols, icons, and personalities from a nation's or a region's culture to assist in promoting a brand.
