Page Rank
Overview[edit | edit source]
Page Rank uses a mathematical algorithm based on the webgraph, created by all World Wide Web pages as nodes and hyperlinks as edges, taking into consideration authority hubs such as cnn.com or usa.gov. Page Rank is calculated on a scale of 0 to 10.
History[edit | edit source]
The algorithm is designed to improve upon the idea that not all links are equal. It was developed at Stanford University by Larry Page (hence the name Page Rank) and Sergey Brin in 1996 as part of a research project about a new kind of search engine.
Calculation[edit | edit source]
The basic idea behind Page Rank is that not all pages are equal. The importance of a webpage can be judged by looking at the pages that link to it.
