==Overview== E-commerce is often used to refer to the sale of physical products online, but it can also describe any kind of commercial transaction that is facilitated through the internet. E-commerce has experienced significant growth since its inception in the late 20th century. It has transformed the way businesses operate, allowing products and services to be discovered and purchased through online storefronts. With the increasing accessibility of the internet globally, the number of people participating in e-commerce activities continues to grow. Today, E-commerce has different forms, including but not limited to, online retailing, electronic markets, and online auctions. ==Usage Types== E-commerce can be classified into four main categories based on the nature of the transaction. ===Business to Business (B2B)=== This involves companies doing business with each other. The final consumer is not involved in this type. An example could be manufacturers selling to distributors. ===Business to Consumer (B2C)=== This model is what most people think of when they hear "E-commerce." It involves businesses selling to the general public through shopping cart software. ===Consumer to Consumer (C2C)=== This type of e-commerce is covered by platforms such as eBay, where customers can sell items to each other. ===Consumer to Business (C2B)=== This is a type of e-commerce where the consumer sells their products or services to a business or organization. An example could be a freelance graphic designer creating a logo for a company. ==Conclusion== The rise of e-commerce has significantly changed the nature of retail. With the growth of online shopping, the retail landscape has become more competitive and dynamic. However, with the increased use of e-commerce, challenges related to data privacy, security, and digital accessibility have also emerged, making it an ever-evolving field of study and practice in the digital marketing world.
